Weird indeed, first time I hear about this issue. If it used to work and it suddenly doesn't it's unlikely to be theme related. Please try to disable all plugins as first troubleshooting an re-think about recent actions taken and possibly revert them back.
I did not add any new plugin. The problem occurred when I was writing a new post and I kept saving it. As soon as I went to work on the "rating option" I could not see it.

I am not able to see the "rating option" in the backend while creating a post.
The rating option is ticked in the show on screen option but it is still not visible at the end of the page in the backend.
This option was visible earlier and I do not know how it disappeared.
Merged the top and the bottom of the backend in a single image to attach.

Found out the problem. It was indeed a plugin, it started troubling after an update. Thanks Djwd.
