There seems to be a bug about the news ticker as also other buyers mentioned. I'm investigating this and will release a fix asap. If you could provide admin access it might help troubleshooting this (if not it's ok anyway, I'll figure this out!)
Optimum size for the main slider with the live demo setup is 694x350 or above, if you're using the full width slider instead, it's better to upload images bigger than 1190x430.
thank you very much for providing admin access for testing purposes, fortunately I no longer need it as the issue have been addressed. A fix is already in place for the next upcoming update.
I'll number your questions for better handling:
1. User rating can be enabled in the Single Post Options > Enable User Rating (http://mightymag.djwd.me/help/#single_post). Please be aware that that is a sub-feature of the regular review box.
2. You don't have to do anything specific to enable lightbox galleries. Just build your galleries through the native wordpress galleries feature, and they'll show up like that
3. They can edit some stuff from the front-end when using BuddyPress, other than that, it's not possible through native WP features. Although as you say there might be some other third party plugins that allows to do that, unfortunately I don't know about this.
4. The author page kinda "creates itself" as soon as an user is added. You can usually reach it at this link: http://mightymag.djwd.me/author/USERNAME/(but this may vary depending on your permalinks structure)
To create a sitemap you probably need the help of some dedicated third party plugins as this is not usually a feature that involves themes.
