please have a look at the included documentation as these are basic topics which are covered. About menus, you need to create them and assign them a location, since this is regular WP knowledge you can also find useful information in the wordpress codex
For social buttons it's enough to enter the desired URLs in Appearance > Theme Options > Social Media
ahhh...I found the problem with the social icons. There was some place holder sample text in the twitter box that made the icon appear. I overlooked this.
