When you try 1-2 times you will encounter the same error
I tested it on a regular article with the native WP editor and it worked. Although I don't think the shortcode is compatible with the Visual Composer as it will break its own shortcodes (as you noticed).
in the native WP editör its work, ok. But Visual Composer does not work.

Hi, I guess just like you'd use it normally with other themes.
The first paragraph here explains it, I just tested it out and it seems to work fine.

Just as I thought from that very comment you posted looks like the Visual Composer doesn't support <--nextpage--> tag unfortunately..
