On the front page of the website, every post in every category has the proper color I assigned to them. But one sub-category, Anime Club, doesn't work. It, like everything else in the Anime category, is supposed to be #bc0193. On the front page and in every archive page that isn't in the Anime category it's #dd3333, the base color for the website. I have the hex code in the description of the sub-category and it's not working. Any ideas?
You should set colors only to parent categories to make them work properly and avoid inheritance problems. Although category colors have to be set in Posts > Categories not through the hex code in the description field (that's for menu items only).
I'm having this problem as well and I indeed think it's related to inheritance. But, this is happening when a post is placed in multiple categories. So any category that contains a post that started in a different category is forcing all categories it's assigned in to use the same category color on category page load. I can only get a category to keep its assigned category color provided it doesn't contain a post that also sits in another category.
Is there a workaround for this outside of only being able to assign posts to a single category?
When a post is assigned to multiple categories at the "same tree level" with different colors assigned, the one with the lowest id number will prevail. Unfortunately there's no much to do around this, for this reason I recommend to assign colors to parent categories only.
