I installed the zipped file of stoked to the website and it went up smoothly. I then deactivated all plugins and activated the them and waited for it to load. Then the next thing was database error messages instead of the frontend or backend opening. I tried this 3 times and got the same response. I was only able to access the site after I had gone to the cpanel to delete the template.
I currently use the newspaper theme one my site and want to change because it is not compatible with opera mini, which is the source of my biggest traffic.
Have you tried addressing this to your hosting provider? If you provide admin access I'll have a pick although it's unlikely I can do something from the WP backend. Doesn't seem to be specifically a theme related issue rather than some issue between WP/Database.
I got this but this doesn't prove much unfortunately as of course me and other customers can install the theme just fine. I wouldn't release a theme that triggers a database error upon activation obviously, it wouldn't have gone through Themeforest review in the first place
You said this has happened before, so it could be some function that some themes use, it's hard to tell.
The problem must be somewhere else. How did you install the theme? If through WP interface, you might want to try deleting it and uploading it via FTP.
If you want to make sure it's not something wrong with your db setup you might want to try it out on a fresh install and fresh database to sort out all doubts.
We installed via ftp. When it happened with Braxton theme, it was an issue of the theme running too much process and causing the server to crash. We troubleshooted until we discovered it was an issue with the theme and when we replaced it with Newspaper, that issue disappeared. But then, with Braxton, the theme activates and we are able to work and post stories. The error mostly only occurs when we have a large number of visitors. With this one, we don't even leave the activate theme area. Would you like to look at the database area?
Hi, I know we have a time difference problem, but i will have to find a way to work things out as I want to use the theme. I have contacted Bluehost and they say they can''t see a problem. Sadly, the digital manager that works for me says he cant also see anything wrong, especially as a much more complex Newspaper theme works.
To your question, I do have ftp in cpanel. I can send that to you and you can poke around and see if you find anything.
just had a lengthy chat with the Bluehost rep. Frustrating stuff made for horror movies. they say issue cant be from them since present theme works. I say this works on other site, but they waved that aside. will send you the loon next.
Of course they wave aside...they're trying to pass the buck. It's unfortunate though as they easily see in depth actual errors that lay behind a general and unhelpful 'Database Error'.
I'm telling you a good troubleshooting would be to setup a fresh database and WP install and test it there. Anyway, keep me posted.

Hi there,
thanks for writing in.
What is the error you're getting?

The error I am getting is ''Database error'
Is that it?

I checked with the host (bluehost) they say it theme based, especially because Newspaper theme works just fine.

Are you still willing to look into this for us?
Yes but it’s midnight in my timezone (UTC+8:00).
I will have a look tomorrow.

I can have a look but I'm telling you it's unlikely that anyone but the hosting provider can help on this matter. Do you have FTP manager in cpanel?

Hi there,
Well on the other hand you can reply by saying how is it possible that it works fine on every other install except mine?
Still I would suggest to setup a new database and test it there.
Anyway please send the login details though I'll have a peek anyway (remember to mark the post as private).
